Malaga is home to a large number of impressive museums concentrated in just a few blocks. The Municipal Heritage Museum (MUPAM), is located at No. 1 Paseo de Reding, where the street begins. Across the street is the "Malagueta" where the "Museo Taurino de Málaga" (Malaga's Bullfighting Museum) is located, and walking towards the Alcazaba, we can find the "Alcazaba's Museum" on Alcazabilla Street. Beside it, the Palacio de la Aduana (the Customs Palace), will soon house the "Museo de Bellas Artes de Málaga" (Malaga's Fine Arts Museum). Very close by, in the Cathedral, we find "Malaga's Cathedral Museum" and in the same area, on Plaza de la Merced, the "Museo de la Fundación Casa Natal" (Museum of the Foundation of the House where Picasso was born) is located. A few meters away, the "Museo Picasso de Málaga", is home to the most important private collection of this very talented painter from Malaga. We can name many others, such as the Thyssen Museum, which will open its doors at the end of 2010, the CAC Malaga (Contemporary Art Centre), considered one of the most important museums of its kind in the country because of its brilliant temporary exhibitions within the international contemporary art circuit.

The city of Malaga boasts more than 20 museums of very different etiologies, with very diverse themes, such as Flamenco, Sciences, the Sacred Art, Air Transportation or Music. The museum activity in Malaga is becoming increasingly important. This is why Malaga is one of the cities bidding to become the European Capital of Culture in 2016.
